Ugadi Festival 2013

In 2013 it is celebrated on 11th of April as Sri Vijayanama Ugadi by telugu people.

Ugadi History

It is the New Year's Day festival celebrated by the people of the Deccan region of India.

Ugadi is also written as Yugadi. The name Ugadi or Yugadi is derived from the Sanskrit words yuga means age and ādi means beginning. In total "the beginning of a new age".

Depending on the location of the region in Decon India, Ugadi is celebrated on different days of English calendar.

There are 60 years and each year has a unique name. Every year starts with month of Chaitra (March–April).

Ugadi Pachadi is special mixture 6 different tastes which will convey and make understand that life is a process of different experiences like sadness, happiness, anger, fear, disgust, surprise and one must accept all different experiences to have a complete life.

Ugadi Pachadi Preparation

Ingredients

1-Cup Neem Buds/Flowers. (bitterness-Sadness)
200g Jaggery and 2 ripe banana. (sweetness-Happiness)
5 Green Chilli or 25g Pepper. (hot-Anger)
3-Table Spoons Salt (saltiness-Fear)
100g Tamarind. (sourness-Disgust)
2 Unripened Mangos. (tang-Surprise)
5-Liters Water.

Process

Take a new mud pot pour water into it.
Add Neem Buds/Flowers to the water.
Slice banana into small pieces add to the water.
Crush Jaggery then add it to the water and stir well.
Chop Green Chilli and add it to the water.
If Green Chilli is not available powder the Pepper and add it to the  water.
Add salt.
Make a thick juice of Tamarind and add it to the water.
Slice Unripened Mangos into small pieces add to the water.
Stir well so that all the ingredients are mixed.
